The Revolutionary Prayer for Freedom

This week we engage with second half of the world’s most famous prayer.
After starting by helping his followers understand their relationship with God and encouraging them to bring their needs to Him, Jesus turns his attention to the spiritual battle we all find ourselves in.

Our society would see religious belief as something that robs us of life, Jesus however claimed that he had come in order that people might have whole and full lives (John 10:10). As he draws his lesson about prayer to an end he points his followers to the kinds of things that enable them to live in that freedom.

In many ways Jesus is teaching us how to live from the Apostle Paul’s words in Galatians chapter 5: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

My prayer is that we might hear the meaning of Jesus’ words and truly be a community of people who are living in the freedom of whole life that he promises.
